Dr. Jeremy Torstveit

Dr. Jeremy Torstveit

Dr. Jeremy Torstveit first opened his practice in Phoenix in 1979, following the completion of his formal training in adult and pediatric cardiovascular surgery. Over the years, he and Dr. Halpe had worked closely together on surgical cases and had cemented a friendship with their shared desire to help those children who needed complex medical care and specialized services that they were unable to obtain.

The doctors desired to reverse the process of programs, thereby taking the specialists to the patients. They planned to train those already practicing on site to assist the centers in becoming self-reliant and perpetuating. Dr. Torstveit is truly the "heart" and driving force of the Project. He is an extremely skilled cardiovascular, thoracic and trauma surgeon, who performs intricate open heart procedures on infants, children and adults.

He is an international instructor and lecturer, traveling frequently to the third world to teach and perform complex cardiac surgery on babies and small children. He devotes a great deal of his time to collecting, sorting, and shipping the medical equipment and supplies used in our missions. His work has been featured on numerous occasions in local and national television and news periodicals. Dr. Torstveit enjoys music, travel, and spending time with his fiancee, Shawn, and daughter, Kelsey. Being a former NHRA Division I and II champion, he is still an avid drag racing fan, and he occasionally serves as Track Physician for NHRA events. Dr. Torstveit has received numerous local, regional, and national awards and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
